1. Draft report General Assembly 2024
The draft report was approved.
2. Report of Secretariat
Ercan Avci presented the report. The report describes the Secretariat’s efforts to increase the membership, the work on the website, and collaboration with the conference teams in Bangalore and Amsterdam. Ercan gave an overview of the number of members.
3. Financial Report 2024
Joris Gielen presented the report. Renzo Pegoraro confirmed that the Financial Committee has reviewed and approved the report. The Financial Report was approved.
4. Appointment of Financial Committee 2025
Renzo Pegoraro and Claude Verges were reappointed as members of the Financial Committee.
5. Election of President-Elect and Board members
Henk ten Have explained that since the Board had received no nominations for the position of President Elect, the Board has nominated Luciana Caenazzo as President Elect. The General Assembly confirmed this nomination. The Board had nominated Berna Arda to continue as a Board member. The General Assembly confirmed this nomination. The Board had nominated David Cerido as the Regional Officer for Latin America. The General Assembly confirmed this nomination.
6. Annual dues
The General Assembly decided not to change the dues.
7. International Journal for Ethics Education
Henk ten Have presented the Journal’s accomplishments. The new impact factor will be 1.2 (increasing from 0.4 in 2023). There will be a possibility to have thematic issues. Henk ten Have will update the editorial board to include more active members and be representative of global and disciplinary diversity. Henk ten Have emphasized the importance of originality and increasing number of submissions.
8. 14th Conference in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, 24-26 June 2026
Henk ten Have gave an update on the conference (website, time, location, topic). The website for the conference has new been launched and will be further updated. Registration will start in January. Submission of abstracts will open in October and end in December. There was some discussion on the possibility of mentoring young researchers.
9. 15th Conference in Madrid, Spain, 22-24 June, 2027
Henk ten Have informed the General Assembly that the team in Madrid will start working on the conference after the summer break.
10. Proposals for future conferences
There is a proposal from Alberto Garcia Gómez to organize the 2028 conference in Rome. Alberto Garcia gave an overview of the plans. The General Assembly approved the approval. The conference will be held in Rome on June 22-24, 2028.
11. Growth plan for Associated Members of IAEE
David Cerdio Dominguez summarized the Growth Plan. David Cerdio volunteered to help with the design of a flyer that members could use to spread the word about the organization. There was a proposal to develop a strategic plan for the Association. Instead, considering the size of the organization, Renzo Pegoraro proposed to choose one specific action or target for each year. It was agreed that a year-by-year goal or actionable item will be integrated into the growth plan for the coming years. The Board will create such an action plan and distribute it among the members so that they can act upon it before the next General Assembly.
12. Accreditation proposal by Berna Arda
The proposal describes how the Association may act as an organization that accredits ethics educational programs. The General Assembly sees opportunities in the plan (e.g. growth of the Association), but also challenges (workload). The proposal is within the scope of the organization. The Association will need to decide how to implement it. The Board will take this proposal forward and decide on the next steps in consultation with Berna Arda.
13. Any other business
IAEE may create vacant positions for officers for different regions. Next year it will make a proposal for a Board member for Asia. To promote the organization through a short promotional video may be a good idea. It was also suggested to more effectively used the journal to promote membership of the organization.
